Why two days?
Day-trippers see the statue, climb the lift, take a photo, and leave. Stay overnight and you get the temple at golden hour, dinner with a sea view, and — most importantly — a half-day window to dive Netrani Island, which only operates morning trips.
Day 1 — Arrive, temple, gopuram, sunset beach
- 2:00 PM — Check in at one of the sea-view properties on Murudeshwar Beach Road.
- 3:30 PM — Murudeshwar temple darshan. The 3–8:30 PM evening window is less crowded than mornings.
- 4:30 PM — Buy a ₹20 ticket for the gopuram lift. 20 storeys up, 360° view of the statue, beach and Arabian Sea.
- 5:30 PM — Statue + sea sunset photos from the south end of the beach.
- 7:30 PM — Dinner at a beachfront shack. Try the local solkadhi and grilled mackerel.
Day 2 — Netrani Island scuba
- 6:30 AM — Light breakfast.
- 7:30 AM — Dive operators pick you up from the hotel and drive 20 min to the launch point.
- 8:30 AM — Boat ride out to Netrani Island (≈45 min).
- 10:00 AM — First dive (10–15 m). Even non-certified beginners can do a try-dive.
- 12:00 PM — Surface interval and lunch on the boat.
- 1:30 PM — Second dive at a different site.
- 4:00 PM — Back on shore. Drive home with stories.
What to know about Netrani diving
- Cost: ₹4,500 – 5,500 per person for two boat dives including gear, lunch and certified instructor.
- Season: October to mid-May only. No diving June–September.
- Visibility: 8–18 m depending on month — December & January are clearest.
- Marine life: Schools of trevally, parrotfish, lionfish, occasional reef shark and turtle.
Where to stay in Murudeshwar
Stick to Beach Road for sea views — RNS Residency, Naveen Beach Resort and the Kamat Sea View are reliable mid-range picks. Budget travellers will find clean rooms behind the temple complex for under ₹1,500 a night.
How to combine with other Karnataka coast spots
Murudeshwar pairs naturally with Honnavar (25 km north) and Gokarna (75 km north) for a 4–5 day coastal Karnataka loop. Add Yana for a forest-day on the way back.
