Murudeshwar, temple town and water-sports base
Murudeshwar is unmistakable from a distance — a 123-foot Shiva statue standing over the Arabian Sea, next to a temple with one of India's tallest gopuras (towers), both built on a small hillock surrounded by water on three sides. It draws pilgrims for the Murudeshwara Temple itself, but the beach right below the statue has quietly become one of Karnataka's busiest spots for jet skiing, banana boat rides and parasailing.
A short boat ride offshore is Netrani Island, a heart-shaped island that's the best scuba diving and snorkelling spot on this coast. Between the temple, the beach water sports and Netrani, Murudeshwar works well as either a half-day stop or a base for a full day on and in the water.

Best Time to Visit Murudeshwar
October to March is peak season, with calm seas ideal for jet skiing, parasailing and Netrani Island scuba trips. Early morning is best for temple visits, before the day-tripper crowds arrive.
April–May is hot but still fine for water sports. Monsoon (June–September) brings rough seas, and most beach water sports and boat trips to Netrani pause entirely.

By rail: Murudeshwar has its own railway station on the Konkan Railway line, one of the most convenient ways in.
By road/air: It's on NH66, about 45 km south of Honnavar and 90 km from Gokarna. Mangaluru Airport (~130 km) is the nearest major airport.
