Apsarakonda is one of the few waterfalls in India that drops almost directly onto a beach — a short detour off NH66, minutes from Honnavar town. Here's how to reach it, when to go, and what to expect.
Where a Waterfall Meets the Sea
Apsarakonda Falls sits about 10 km south of Honnavar town, just off the coastal highway. A stream drops roughly 20 metres down a laterite cliff into a pool a short walk from a quiet beach — the rare combination of waterfall and sea in one stop is what makes it worth the detour. Local legend has it that apsaras (celestial nymphs) once bathed here, which is where the name comes from.
It's a low-effort visit: park close by, a short walk gets you to the base of the falls, and you can carry on to the adjoining beach afterwards. It works best as a one- to two-hour stop on a Gokarna-Honnavar-Murudeshwar drive rather than a full day trip on its own.

Just after monsoon, October-December, is when the falls run fullest and most dramatic, with the surrounding greenery still lush. By March-May the flow thins considerably, though the spot is still scenic and far less crowded. During peak monsoon (June-September) the flow is heaviest but access can be slippery — go carefully.
